PeopleSoft Password Updates
When your current PeopleSoft password expires, your new password must have the following:

  • Be 10 characters long
  • Include:
    • Lower Case Letter
    • Upper Case Letter
    • Number
    • Special Character

  • Each fall, the city mails out a notice of the benefits you are presently enrolled in.
  • Typically, unless you want to or need to make changes to what you had previously selected, you do not have to do anything.
  • Login to People Soft to access open enrollment and to review your benefits

  • This policy continues after your retirement.
  • For the present value, call the City  etirement office at 757-664-4738
  • Contact them directly to change the beneficiary information.

Making A Claim with the City
The surviving spouse, child(ren), estate, or other beneficiary may be entitled to death benefits. However, no death benefit claim may be processed unless NERS (City Retirement Office) is notified of the death. The City's Retirement office should be notified as soon as possible.

You Reporting the death to the City

Required Documents
If you want to discuss your loved one’s account, NERS may request the following documents:

  • Valid Photo Identification (e.g., driver’s license)
  • Copy of Death Certificate
  • Copy of Marriage Certificate
    (Surviving spouse only)
  • Proof of Executorship
    (e.g., paperwork showing you have been appointed as Executor or Administrator of the deceased's estate)
