Remember, there is strength in numbers

Membership is reserved for employees of the City of Norfolk in Virginia who:

• Currently receiving a retirement check.
• *Vested their service and are currently receiving a retirement check.
• **Currently work for the City and have 25 or more years of service.
• Is a surviving spouse and is receiving their spouse's city retirement benefits.

*Vested employees are those "full-time and permanent part-time City employees, hired or rehired prior to January 1, 2022, that left City employment with a minimum of five (5) years of creditable service and are entitled to a future NERS benefit."

**This enables active employees to join before they retire

Meetings - Answering the Questions

• Many members in attendance have discovered explanations that affect their retirement at our meetings or something they did not even know.
• Our speakers have included:
  • City council members
    (and those in the running)
  • City manager
  • Mayor
  • Retirement office director
  • Benefits Coordinator
  • Medicare and Social Security specialists
  • Elder Law Attorneys
  • and many others who specialize in things that affect your retired years
• You may also find answers to your questions in the numerous links on this website.
  Such as direct links, emails, phone numbers to various offices within city, state and federal agencies.
• You may run into other retirees from your department.

Membership is free!
However, we truly appreciate any donations to help offset costs for refreshments and administrative requirements.
A donation jar will be available at all meetings.
